Field Day
Wildlife Research Data Management Tool
Field Day began as my undergraduate capstone at ASU, built by a five-person team, and is a wildlife research data platform with two components: a PWA for mobile data collection in the field and a data management tool designed for larger screens. My contributions included designing the UI, implementing the desktop interface with React and Tailwind, and connecting the backend to the desktop data management tool. Since graduating, I have continued to maintain and support the platform professionally under contract.
Field Day was developed as my undergraduate capstone project at Arizona State University. Working with a team of five developers, we created two integrated applications: a Progressive Web App for field data collection and a web-based data management interface.
The project was sponsored by Dr. Heather Bateman, a biology professor at ASU, to support wildlife research and conservation efforts in Arizona. My specific contributions included UI/UX design, implementing the desktop interface with React and Tailwind, and integrating Firebase for data management.
What started as the culmination of my Software Engineering degree at ASU has become an ongoing professional engagement. After graduating, I stayed on under contract to maintain the platform—shipping fixes, keeping its dependencies and infrastructure current, and supporting its continued use in active wildlife research.
